Cheryl Darlene Blagg (Blackwell)

Cheryl Darlene Blagg (Blackwell)

Cheryl Darlene Blagg of Springfield, Colorado entered into eternal peace on Saturday, July 30, 2011 in Pueblo, Colorado at the age of 64.

Darlene (as she was known by family and friends) was born on December 8, 1946 to Roscoe Lamont and Fannie (Carter) Blagg in Wichita Falls, Texas. Growing up, she was involved with Girl Scouts, loved hanging out with her friends and going to school dances where she met her future husband William (Bill) Ray Blackwell. They were married on January of 1965. In May of that year, she graduated from Rider High in Wichita Falls. During this union, five children were born. The family moved to different towns in New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma following Bill and his work. While in New Mexico, Darlene discovered her love for Native American Art and Jewelry. She got involved in all different crafts from beadwork to crocheting. Darlene was also an avid reader. She enjoyed westerns and romance novels.

Bill and Darlene moved the family to Clayton, New Mexico where they later divorced in 1992. After the divorce, Darlene moved to Baca County in Colorado. Everyone in Springfield remembers Darlene as the one who worked the graveyard shift at the Crossroads Travel Plaza. Darlene moved with her daughter, Tonya to Jackson, Mississippi, then to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Lake City, Florida to only one day return to Springfield, Colorado.

Darlene was known for speaking her mind, but she always put her needs last when it came to her kids. She always made sure the kids were well taken care of before she ever did or bought anything for herself. She loved her kids and really loved her grandkids (who called her Grammy). Over the years, she has had many pets, but her favoite dog was Sassy, who she treated just like her kid.

She is survived by her children: Stephanie Reyes of Boice City, Oklahoma; Stephen Blackwell of North Carolina, Billy (William) Blackwell of Mississippi; Tonya Blackwell of Springfield, Colorado; and Mary Malaka of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; Roscoe and Fannie Blagg and one grandson, Issac Blackwell.

Graveside serves were held at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park, Texas, August 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. presided over by John Henley. Arrangements were entrusted to Rich Funeral Home of Springfield, Colorado.
